Paint Performance Guarantee – Interior Applications

At Natural Paint Co, we understand that your living environment needs to look great for years to come.  That is why we offer a 25-year Paint Performance Guarantee, subject to the terms set out below. By using Natural Paint Co, you have a commitment from us that, when used as directed, your paint is designed to stand the test of time

The conditions of our Paint Performance Guarantee are:

1. Definitions

For the purposes of this Guarantee:

  • “Product” means the undercoat and top coat products of Natural Paint Co’s interior paint system
  • “Product Failure” means blistering, cracking, flaking, or peeling of the Product that occurs during normal use and is caused solely and directly by a defect in the manufacture or formulation of the Product. For the avoidance of doubt, Product Failure does not include changes to colour, gloss, or appearance caused by normal aging, UV exposure, soiling, mould growth, or staining, or by factors described in clause 4.
  • “Applicator” means a contractor, painter or other professional tradesperson responsible for surface preparation and application of the Product.
  • “Specification Documents” means all Natural Paint Co Technical Data Sheets, written specifications, and application instructions current at the time of application.

 

2. Guarantee Overview

Natural Paint Co warrants that its Interior Paint Systems will perform in accordance with this Guarantee when applied in strict compliance with all applicable Specification Documents.

Subject to the conditions, exclusions, and limitations set out below, Natural Paint Co provides a twenty-five (25) year Paint Performance Guarantee for qualifying interior applications.

 

 

3. Scope of Guarantee

Natural Paint Co guarantees that the Product will not blister, flake, or peel for a period of twenty-five (25) years from the date of practical completion, where such failure is caused solely by Product Failure.

This Paint Performance Guarantee applies only where:

  • The substrate has been correctly assessed, prepared, and deemed suitable for coating
  • Application is carried out in strict accordance with:
    • Natural Paint Co Technical Data Sheets and Specification Documents
    • AS/NZS 2311 Guide to the Painting of Buildings
    • The MPNZA Specification Manual

 

4. Product Failure vs External Factors

This Guarantee expressly applies only to Product Failure.

The Paint Performance Guarantee does not apply to, and is not intended to cover, any failure, damage, or defect arising  from causes other than Product Failure, including but not limited to:

  • Water ingress, moisture migration, leaks, or dampness within walls, ceilings, or substrates
  • Structural movement, substrate cracking, settlement, vibration, or building defects
  • Impact damage, abrasion, vandalism, or physical force applied to the painted surface
  • Chemical exposure, cleaning agents, fumes, or environmental contamination
  • Heat, steam, or humidity levels outside the Product’s specified performance limits
  • Failure or breakdown of previously applied coatings or underlying materials
  • Inadequate surface preparation or incorrect application
  • Lack of maintenance or misuse

Where paint failure is the result of any of the above factors, such failure shall not be considered Product Failure and is excluded from this Paint Performance Guarantee.

 

 

5. Remedy

Where a valid claim is established under this Paint Performance Guarantee and Product Failure is confirmed, Natural Paint Co’s obligation under this Guarantee is limited to the free supply of replacement Product sufficient to rectify the affected areas.

This Paint Performance Guarantee does not cover, and Natural Paint Co is not responsible under this Guarantee for: 

  • Labour costs
  • Surface preparation or removal of existing coatings
  • Access costs, scaffolding, or equipment
  • Reapplication costs
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses or material damages

These limitations apply only to this Paint Performance Guarantee. For consumers, they do not limit or exclude any rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ) or Australian Consumer Law.

 

 

6. Applicator Requirements

This Paint Performance Guarantee applies only where the Product is applied by an Applicator who:

  • Is a current member of the Master Painters New Zealand Association (MPNZA)
  • Is suitably qualified, experienced, and competent in commercial paint application; and
  • Uses appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques in accordance with the Specification Documents 
  • The Applicator remains solely responsible to you for the quality, compliance, and completion of the work. Natural Paint Co is not responsible for any failure arising from defective workmanship or application practices. 

 

 

7. Claims Process

Any claim under this Paint Performance Guarantee must be submitted in writing and should include:

  • Proof of purchase of Natural Paint Co Product
  • Application records confirming compliance with Specification Documents; and
  • Photos or other evidence reasonably required by Natural Paint Co to assess the claim.

Natural Paint Co reserves the right to inspect the affected areas before accepting or rejecting any claim..

 

 

8. General & Legal

This Paint Performance Guarantee:

  • Applies only to Interior Paint System supplied by Natural Paint Co
  • Is not transferable without written consent
  • Is in addition to, and does not limit or exclude rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ) or Australian Law for consumers; and  
  • For customers who acquire the Product via a commercial customer (ie. Product is purchased by an Applicator), Natural Paint Company may agree with that customer to limit or exclude certain statutory guarantees to the extent permitted by law. 

This Guarantee is governed by the laws of New Zealand or Australia (as applicable to the project location)
